WISDOM BEGINS AND ENDS WITH HUMILITY

Proverbs 16:18 (NLT) “Pride goes before destruction, and haughtiness before a fall.”

Mindful Minute

If there is one thing that will keep us from living by God’s wisdom, it is pride. Pride tells us that we already know what is best. Pride convinces us that our way will work out, even when we know it is not in alignment with God’s loving admonition or instruction. Pride tells us that we know better than God. Pride makes us forget that there are consequences to our actions when we choose an alternative route from the path our Father in Heaven has set for us.

Just like the story of the fall in the Garden, this verse warns us that pride leads to destruction. Not because God desires to punish us, but because pride removes us from the very wisdom that keeps us safe. When we trust our own instincts instead of the wisdom of God’s Word, we slowly begin building our lives on sand instead of rock. It can look stable for a moment, but eventually the cracks show. The pressure hits. The tide comes in. And we find ourselves stumbling in places we once felt secure.

Wisdom begins with humility, and humility says, “Lord, I need you. I do not see everything clearly. I want to learn from you.” Humility opens the door for guidance, understanding, and protection. It is the posture that keeps us teachable and aligned with the heart of God.

As we close this five-day journey, remember this. Wisdom is not simply knowledge. It is a daily choice to walk humbly with God, to trust His ways above our own, and to let Him shape the direction of our lives.

Prayer

Father, reveal any areas of pride in my heart that keep me from your wisdom. Help me choose humility over pride so I can walk in your truth and avoid the painful destruction that pride brings. Teach me to rely on you instead of my own understanding. Thank you for guiding me with your infinite love and patience. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
