A disciple of the Lord Jesus Christ, for the rest of their life, will battle against sin and their sinful flesh. Our flesh is the part of our old, sinful nature that still has wrong desires.
Christians are not perfect, and they face temptation each day, which, if not handled properly, will result in sin. James 1:14-15 explains the dangers and progression of temptation, stating, “But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away by his own lust, and enticed. Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.” Temptation begins with one being drawn in the wrong direction by their lustful desires. Lustful desires develop into sin, and sin brings death and destruction.
The disciple of Jesus Christ should guard against lust, sin, and temptation as these things draw us away from rather than closer to God.
