Becoming Love: If We Start at Finish, Where Do We End? (Part 3)

DAY 3 OF 5

Day Thirteen - Jesus and the Centurion’s Servant

Have you ever been surprised by where true faith comes from?

In today’s passage from Matthew 8, a Roman centurion—an outsider by every standard—approaches Jesus. His servant is suffering, and he believes Jesus can heal him. But what unfolds is more than a miracle; it’s a moment where heaven affirms a faith that transcends all boundaries.

There are two amazing things about this story to notice.

Firstly, Jesus didn’t see an outsider; He saw faith. He didn’t question the man’s background, theology, or worthiness. He simply responded with compassion. And when the centurion displayed his understanding of authority by saying, “Just say the word,” Jesus was astonished. This is love on display, meeting need without prejudice, revealing that in God's kingdom there are no outsiders.

Secondly, Jesus reveals that authority flows from identity. The centurion understood that Jesus operated from a place of divine authority. Jesus then turns this into a revelation about us: the same Spirit that empowered Him now lives in us. Jesus is not only the example for you; He is the example of you—the new you, reborn and empowered by the Spirit. Therefore, the love and authority He demonstrated are not something we will achieve one day, but it’s an internal reality we can already release now. This is about becoming God’s love for others in any situation. It inspires people to demonstrate faith through God’s love.

When you choose to become love for others, how does it change the way you perceive faith in them?

About this Plan

Becoming Love: If We Start at Finish, Where Do We End? (Part 3)

The Christian life is not only about knowing truth but about becoming truth in action—people through whom the love of God is made visible in our world. This journey begins as we receive God’s love personally, allowing His Spirit to shape our hearts, renew our minds, and align our lives with His purpose. In this study, we will discover what it means to become love. Note: This is Part 3 of a 4-part reading plan.
