Don’t Look Back!

Key Verse: And when they had brought their boats to land, they left everything and followed Him. - Luke 5:11

At the departure area of the airport, it’s not uncommon to see tear-stained faces as people say goodbye to their loved ones or friends who are leaving for long periods of time, because saying goodbye is not easy.

“And when they had brought their boats to land, they left everything and followed Him” (Luke 5:11).

What strikes us is the radical shift of priorities. These fishermen had just received the biggest catch of their lives, the very thing they had worked for all night. Yet, when Jesus called, they walked away from it all. Their identity, security, and livelihood were tied to those boats and nets but encountering Christ changed everything.

This reveals an important truth: the call of Jesus always involves reordering what matters most in our lives. For us, it may mean laying down possessions, reputation, certain relationships or even the familiar routines we find comfort in. The point is not that Jesus strips us of all good things but that He becomes our highest treasure.

Real discipleship is a deliberate, conscious decision to say, “Jesus, You are worth more than my nets, more than my catch, more than my own plans” and to make responsible choices in laying them down. The miracle of abundance is wonderful but the true miracle is the transformed heart that says, “Yes, Lord, I will leave everything to follow you.”

True obedience brings freedom. By leaving everything, the disciples stepped into a new purpose and identity, not bound by what they owned or produced, but defined by the One they followed.

Don’t look back because by letting go of the past, you too can find greater meaning, fulfilment and purpose in your life.
