7 Expressions of Praise

DAY 6 OF 7

Zamar (זָמַר) - To make music in praise

It is good to praise (zamar) the Lord and make music to Your name, O Most High” (Psalm 92:1 NIV).

Zamar means to make music in praise: to worship God through song, melody, and sound. It’s the kind of praise that lifts the atmosphere and invites heaven to touch earth.

Researchers have found that when we worship, something powerful happens in our brain. Praise releases chemicals that strengthen healthy brain cells and boost our mood.

Every morning you wake up with new brain cells ready to be shaped by your focus, and worship helps your mind grow in peace, gratitude, and joy.

When we do give God praise, we become more aware of His presence. The very act of worship draws us closer to Him.

Zamar isn’t about having a perfect voice; it’s about choosing to sing even when life feels heavy. It’s about lifting your heart and saying, “God, I trust You.” As you make music to His Name, burdens begin to lift, peace fills your mind, and joy starts to rise.

PRAYER:

Lord, thank You that You meet me when I worship. Let my song be pleasing to You, as I lift my hands, my heart and my voice to You. Fill my heart with peace and joy as I make music to Your name, Amen.

About this Plan

7 Expressions of Praise

These seven words—or postures of the heart—help remind us how and why we give God praise. They come from Hebrew words used throughout the Old Testament to describe different expressions of worship. They are some of the most powerful and descriptive, giving us a deeper understanding of what God means when He invites us to worship Him. As you go through each of these seven words this week, take time to be intentional—not just with your words or songs, but with the posture of your heart in worship.
