Heralding HopeSample

A Home of Hope
Kala called out for the delivery man to wait. She quickly pulled out a carton of juice, some biscuits and a leaflet about Jesus and handed them to the exhausted man. As he looked bewildered by her kindness, she smilingly said, “Thank you for serving us during these lockdowns, Merry Christmas and Jesus loves you!” The lockdown had not locked her in.
Tabitha too was one such disciple who was always doing good. She made dresses for the widows in her community, and her life of witness had won many for Christ. Her life, and witness, was so essential to the growth of the local church at Joppa, that when she became sick and died Peter was urged to come with the hope that God would raise her from the dead. Tabitha had made her house a home of hope to the community around her every day.
We too are called to make this kind of dynamic difference in the communities we live in. Our smallest acts of kindness can show the love of Christ to others in our places of work or study. While Christmas is a great time to extend love, kindness and hospitality to our neighbours and friends, our mission to spread God's love is an everyday affair. Mission does not start on the mission field—it starts within our field of vision.
How can we enable God’s mission in our immediate circle? Who are some people who need to experience God’s love through us this season?
Dear Lord, may my thoughts, words, and deeds be your mission field.

About this Plan

When the angelic chorus filled the skies that first Christmas night, they declared, “Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests” (Luke 2:13-14). They heralded hope and invited the shepherds to see the Christ child. This Christmas, we too are called to carry that same hope by inviting others to encounter the world’s greatest gift —Jesus. Through seven devotional reflections, this reading plan is a reminder that whether through humble acts of kindness or bold conversations of faith our lives can be a herald of hope for others.
