Hidden Knowledge

Jesus thanked the Father because God had hidden the mysteries of the kingdom from the wise and prudent. And they are hidden because God opposes pride but loves humility.

The proud aren’t glad when God is given glory. They instead get mad. This is because they love their sin and hate the light of righteousness. And the tragic consequence is that they don’t understand the unspeakably good news that everlasting life is a free gift. No matter how much we lovingly contend with a proud person, they cannot see nor understand the gospel. They look and don’t see. They hear and don’t understand.

One virtue of children is that they love to learn, and they do so with wide eyes. They want to learn about the animals they see and the marvels of nature that surround them. And they will become educated according to their own hunger for knowledge.

The same applies within the kingdom of God. Jesus said that we are to become as little children, and so we mingle our faith in the Bible with an insatiable hunger for the things of God.

However, we don’t want to simply become knowledgeable. Knowledge puffs up. Instead, we should strive to become wise in the ways of God, and the wise walk in humility of heart. In other words, the wise use knowledge correctly.

Prayer: Father, I pray for the multitudes who are blind to the gospel. Today make me wise and teach me eternal truths.
