Day 7: Their Future

I remember holding my adopted son when he was just a day old and wondering, “God, what story are you writing?”

In adoption, it’s easy to focus on the first few chapters of the story—processing loss, grief, and pain—and forget to look ahead and dream about what’s yet to come.

God has good plans and purposes for everyone involved in adoption: birth parents, adoptive parents, and adoptees. Through adoption, God can create beautiful and unique families. Adoption can draw both birth and adoptive parents closer to understanding the heart of God and see His extraordinary love for us.

As you pray for your adoptive child—whether for their challenges, pain, or past—don’t forget to also pray for and prepare them for an extraordinary future. Instill in them a sense of purpose and remind them that God can use their story to bring hope to others. Their future is filled with meaning and promise.

Help your child find a Bible verse that speaks to them and the story they know God is writing in their life. For our son, he chose Ephesians 2:10. He shared that this verse helps him remember that God will use his story to help others and that God has already prepared a future for him.

What Bible verse best captures the story God is writing in your adoption journey? Write it down, say it out loud, and pray that verse out loud together each day.

Prayers for the Parents

Heavenly Father,

Thank You for this child’s life and the beautiful future You have prepared for them. Even before they were born, You had plans to give them hope and a future filled with purpose.

Lord, I ask that You go before them in every step of their journey. Protect them from harm, guide their decisions, and surround them with people who will encourage, support, and love them well. May they grow strong in character, rooted in faith, and confident in who You created them to be.

Bless their education, their friendships, their gifts, and their dreams. Keep their heart tender toward You and teach them to listen for Your voice.

Lord, remind them daily that they are not defined by the past but by Your promises. May their future be filled with peace, joy, and the knowledge that they are chosen, cherished, and never alone.

Please help me make good choices and follow Your ways.
Bless my friends, my school, and the dreams in my heart.
