DAY 4 OF 5

Day 4 – Developing Discernment

If we are honest, the hardest part of leadership is not always the big decisions—it is the constant noise that drowns out the space where God is trying to speak.

This brings us to our fourth biblical principle: quiet our mind to hear His voice.

We often think that slowing down means to lose ground, or that stillness is passivity, but the Bible teaches us the opposite: “[...] in quietness and trust is your strength” (Isaiah 30:15, NASB). Stillness is not inactivity, rather, the space where discernment is cultivated and strategic clarity is born.

In 1 Kings 19, the prophet Elijah had just experienced a major victory, but now found himself overwhelmed and alone. He was exhausted, confused, and looking for direction from God. Elijah ends up receiving a response from God but it was not through a mighty wind, earthquake, or blazing fire, but through a whisper: “And after the fire the sound of a low whisper.” (1 Kings 19:12, ESV). A low, quiet sound that could only be heard by someone who had stilled everything else.

That whisper changed everything, because in that moment, Elijah was reminded that God was still near, still speaking, still leading him forward.

If we learn to listen to God, we will also hear that same whisper of a voice that Elijah heard— giving us direction: “This is the way; walk in it” (Isaiah 30:21, ESV).

As faith-filled business leaders, we cannot afford to live in constant noise where notifications, opinions, requests, and expectations can easily dilute the voice of God. Our leadership requires us to align ourselves with God’s vision, which requires the kind of clarity that only comes from being still in His presence.

So today, we invite you to pause and make space for listening to God, because maybe, the answer you are searching for is already there and you just need the stillness to hear it.

Prayer: Lord, help me to quiet my mind and still my thoughts so I can hear You clearly—above the noise around me and the weight of my responsibilities. Teach me to value stillness as a sacred space for strategy, not just a pause. I trust that Your whisper carries more power than any noise around me. Amen.
