Grace

DAY 5 OF 5

Undeserved and overflowing

In a world that demands every kindness be deserved, grace is a scandal. It’s a gift precisely because it’s undeserved – freely given and unearned; not initiated by us and cannot be repaid. Yet someone infinitely greater stoops low to offer it – lavishly and eternally.

‘The wages of sin is death’ (Romans 6:23 NIV) – this is what we’ve earned. But grace writes a different ending. If we dare to believe that God is kind enough, powerful enough, and wise enough to give His only Son for sinners, everything changes. We are no longer enemies but sons and daughters. No longer condemned, but covered. No longer empty, but full. From that moment on, grace becomes the atmosphere we breathe. It soaks into every joy and sorrow, every ache and delight. It holds us in seasons of hunger and sustains us in deserts of disappointment. When you have grace, you are never truly lacking.

Grace is not merely a concept. Grace has a name: Jesus – God made flesh, the radiance of the Father, full of grace and truth (John 1:14). In Him, grace takes on skin and blood and breath. It walks among us, weeps with us, dies for us, and rises to raise us. To receive grace is to be showered daily with an overabundance of undeserved kindness of God Himself. Grace tells the truth about who we are and who God is. It cannot be earned without being emptied of its glory. But when it’s simply received, it transforms. Grace will undo you and remake you. Try to deserve it, and you diminish it. Receive it, and you release a never-ending flow of His love.
