Yesterday, we saw that the Bible is one Big Picture.
This Big Picture can be described like this:
The Bible reveals God’s plan to rescue humanity through Jesus Christ.
So the Bible is a rescue plan. But…rescue from what? What is the problem?
That’s what we’ll find out today.
✊ Part 1 – How the problem begins.
Let’s go to the very beginning—to Genesis, the very first book of the Bible.
In this book, we discover that God did not create the problem.
He created humans. And humans were no problem at all. Everything God made was good.
Humans were made in the image of God.
God said, “Let us make man in our image…” (Genesis 1:26, NIV)
That was something good: their role was to show God’s image on earth.
And by showing Him, they were also meant to show how God's good rule works.
God said, “…let us make man […] so that they may rule…” (Genesis 1:26, NIV)
And this would be perfect. Humans would rule under God’s authority, showing His heart and His ways.
Yet this is where the problem began: Humanity rebelled against His authority. They disobeyed the one command God gave them.
God said, “…but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat…” (Genesis 2:16–17, ESV)
“…she took of its fruit and ate […] and he ate.” (Genesis 3:6, ESV)
By eating, they made a choice.
A choice to rule without God—and to rebel against Him.
This rebellion is what the Bible calls sin—rejecting His authority and choosing to rule creation and our own lives without Him.
This event, called the fall, changed everything. It disconnected us from God.
“Your sins have [disconnected] you from God.” (Isaiah 59:2)
That broken connection is humanity’s greatest problem.
Because when we disconnect from Him and rule on our own, pain, suffering, and death follow.
But the Big Picture doesn’t end with the problem.
God didn’t give up.
From the very beginning, He set a rescue plan in motion to rescue humanity through Jesus Christ.
Tomorrow, we’ll look at one of the first steps in that plan: the uncovering of the problem
For now, you can read what exactly happened at the fall.
Application:
👉 What part of life do you try to control on your own—and what would change if you let God lead there?
Prayer:
God,
I see how often I want to do things my own way instead of Yours.
Instead of representing You, I choose to take control and run my life without You.
But even then—You don’t walk away.
Thank You for not giving up on humanity.
Thank You for not giving up on me.
Amen.
