Removing the Mask: Finding Freedom in ChristSample

Removing the Mask: Finding Freedom in Christ

DAY 2 OF 4

When we mask our pain, we often fill our lives with noise. I used to mask my feelings by binge-watching TV, scrolling through social media, shopping, staying busy, over-functioning — anything to avoid sitting in stillness with my thoughts. But instead of silencing anxiety, the noise often amplifies it. It keeps us distracted from the One voice that brings peace: God’s.

At first, the mask might feel like it’s working. It helps us feel in control. It buys us a little time. But eventually, the mask begins to crack. The pretending becomes too heavy. The emotions we’ve pushed down start bubbling up. And when the mask no longer fits, we’re forced to face what’s underneath: grief, loneliness, heartbreak, and fear.

That’s often the moment we find ourselves at the end of ourselves. Exhausted. Numb. Burned out. But it’s often the place where God meets us most powerfully. Psalm 46:1 (KJV) says that “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.” He’s not distant. He’s not disappointed. He’s present. He’s near. He’s ready to restore.

The enemy whispers lies like: You’re not good enough. This will never get better. You’re alone. But the Word tells a different story — one of strength, refuge, and a God who lifts us up when we are overwhelmed.

Action Step:

What mask have you been using to cope — busyness, control, or distraction? Today, take ten minutes to unplug. Sit quietly with God. Let Him speak truth to the places you've been trying to hide.

About this Plan

Removing the Mask: Finding Freedom in Christ
