Devotions on F.I.R.E. Year TwoSample

Whoever desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me (Mark 8:34 NKJV).
Are you leading a life of self–denial?
Isaac has two sons: Esau and Jacob, and as it turns out, Esau would become a carnal man.
Esau sells his birthright to Jacob (Genesis 25:30–34). Why did he give up his birthright? It was for a pot of stew. He was so hungry when he came back from hunting that he made a deal with his brother. It’s a sad day when we give in to the temptation of the flesh.
The writer of Hebrews uses Esau as an example to warn us about fleshly lusts. He first tells us, “Pursue peace with all people, and holiness, without which no one will see the Lord” (Hebrews 12:14 NKJV). Again, the writer of Hebrews warns against fulfilling the lust of the flesh, “Lest there be any fornicator or profane person like Esau, who for one morsel of food sold his birthright” (Hebrews 12:16 NKJV).
Employment Point: Choose God’s path of self–denial and experience His blessing.

About this Plan

Devotions on F.I.R.E. journeys through the Bible in one year. Each day includes a devotion based on Dr. Burge’s F.I.R.E. method of Bible Study. F.I.R.E. stands for Familiarity, Interpretation, Relationship, and Employment. The F.I.R.E. method and the daily devotions help readers remember and apply what they read as they fuel the fire in their hearts for God’s Word—adapted from the book Devotions on F.I.R.E. Year Two, by Dr. Ken J. Burge, Sr.
