02. Plans to Prosper You
What: God’s plans are good
Lectio. “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” (Jeremiah 29:11, NIV – read Jer. 29:10–14).
Meditatio. Jeremiah received the difficult mission of consoling the Jews exiled in Babylon: on the one hand, they were perplexed by captivity; on the other, deceived by the empty promises of false prophets.
Oratio. Confess the goodness of God’s character, who desires only the good of His people. Ask that all confusion and illusion in your life be dispelled, and that you may clearly see how kind and faithful He is.
Contemplatio. Picture the people of Judah arriving in Babylon. See the sadness and disappointment of feeling abandoned. Now contemplate the loving God inspiring Jeremiah to comfort His people with words of hope.
Confessio. I have lived through situations when it was hard to believe they were under God’s control and expressed His love for me and those around me. In such moments, knowing His character and trusting it made all the difference.
