Kingdom Legacy
My grandfather died decades ago, and the only tangible thing I have of him is his toolbox.
It is old, metal, heavy, and too small by current standards. It is far less practical than modern large plastic toolboxes, but I keep it, because it was his, and it means something to me for that reason.
Beyond the toolbox, my grandfather left me a much greater legacy of faith, commitment to family, dedication, serving in church and community, and working hard at everything you do. My father learned these ways, he taught me these ways, and now I teach my children these ways.
My children never knew my grandfather; he died too long ago. And the unpleasant truth that every man must face is that every single one of us, one day, will die (Hebrews 9:27). Our time on this earth is limited, and it all seems to go by so fast (James 4:14).
But Kingdom men know that, first of all, there is life beyond this life, and so our time on earth is not everything that God has for us. It's not even the best that God has for us!
But secondly, we know that we can leave a lasting impact on this world if we do this right (Psalm 112:1-2).
Kingdom men don't live primarily for this earthly life. They live with eternity in mind. As today’s teaching from Jesus says, they live for the heavenly rewards waiting for them, understanding that our time spent in eternity is insanely far beyond any time we might have on this earth. So, it is better to invest in eternal things and make that our primary focus rather than any earthly matter.
But Kingdom men also seek to leave behind a legacy—a legacy of faith, hope, and love for all those who will follow us, natural-born children or not. We serve the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, the God of generations, and the faithfulness of those men left a legacy that has outlasted their earthly lives by millennia.
Kingdom men lived their lives focused on eternity and leaving behind a legacy on earth that will honor their King and His Kingdom. When we do this, we build up treasure in our heavenly reward and leave an incredible blessing for those who will follow us.
Prayer: Lord Jesus, thank You for the promise of eternity with You! Help me to live my life toward eternal life and not be too distracted by the matters of this world. But also help me leave a legacy for those who will remain long after I'm gone, that Your Kingdom will continue to expand through the influence of my life, even long after I've returned home to be with You. Amen.
Reflection: What would it mean to fully live your life with eternity in mind? How might that show up in your day-to-day life?

About this Plan

As Kingdom men, we are to concern ourselves less with the worries of our earthly lives and kingdoms and first focus on God’s Kingdom, with all other things after. The King is on His throne, and we bend a knee and submit our entire lives to Him. This week, we will discuss what it means to be men of Christ’s Kingdom and the high calling that God places on us to live out the ways of the King. Written by Chris Walker.
