The Passion

DAY 9 OF 57

Have you ever been invited to a party that you really didn’t want to attend? Maybe you even said that you would go, but found some excuses on the day as to why you couldn’t be there.

Following on from the Parable of the Tenants in Matthew 21, Jesus shares a parable about a group of people who initially say they’ll come to the banquet the king is holding for his son. When the day comes, however, they not only reject the invitation but kill those whom the King sent. This gives us a picture of the Israelites—through the old covenants, they had accepted the invitation to be God’s people and to be part of God’s coming Kingdom. But when God inaugurates His Kingdom through His Son, Jesus, they reject the invitation.

In response, the King brings judgment to those who reject him. But since the banquet is ready, he extends the invitation to all people, good and bad, so that the hall would be full.

Today, ponder this: The invitation to be part of God’s Kingdom, and to join the wedding feast for the Son, is open to all—good and bad. Who could you be praying for today and inviting to join you in God’s Kingdom?

About this Plan

The Passion

Journey along through Matthew chapters 21 - 28, tracing Jesus’ final days from His entry into Jerusalem to His resurrection. Each devotion unpacks the urgency, sacrifice, and triumph of Christ’s mission, revealing the depth of God’s love and the cost of redemption. Reflect on the Last Supper, Gethsemane, the cross, and the empty tomb whilst encountering Jesus in His suffering and ultimate glory. Whether preparing for Easter or seeking a fresh perspective, The Passion seeks to stir hearts to know Jesus and make Jesus known with hope, boldness, and passion.
