The PassionSample

How do you know summer is coming? Well, it should seem pretty obvious, right? The days start getting longer, the birds start singing, there’s more sunlight, and the warmth of the Spring sun fills us with joy. When we observe these differences, it changes how we live and how we plan our days, weeks, and months.
In this passage, Jesus uses the example of a fig tree to show that just as its tender branches and new leaves signal the approach of summer, so too will the signs make it clear when the end times are near and when Christ is about to return in glory.
We don’t need to live in fear or anxiety, wondering if Jesus will come again, because the signs will be abundantly clear. However, we are told that all created things on heaven and earth will pass away. They are finite and ultimately temporary, and this should change how we view this lifetime.
We know definitively that Jesus’ words will not pass away, yet there are so many things of this earth that we hold onto tightly. What we should really be holding onto tightly are the words and teachings that Christ gives us, because they are eternal.
So, as long as it is called ‘today’, you can find comfort, rest, and solace in God’s eternal Word.
Today, ponder this: How can you dwell and rest in God’s everlasting words today? What are some of the earthly things that we hold tightly that we may need to let go of? Reflect and meditate on your dependence on God’s word, and pray for trust and assurance from it.
