Ekklesia: God’s Idea of ChurchSample

Day 14: A church that fulfils God’s mission
This is it. Jesus’ Great Commission to His disciples. This is the command that sent the disciples, and generations of disciples after them, to the ends of the earth.
Remember who it was that Jesus was commissioning. These were not a group of outstanding, fearless, faith-filled leaders that He was sending out. Some of them doubted Him. Some of them abandoned Him. Peter denied Him when he swore he would not. James and John jostled to be seated at His right and left while the other disciples were indignant. These unschooled men had shown time and again that they were selfish, faithless, and cowardly.
Now, remember who it was that was doing the commissioning. It was Jesus, who declared that all authority in heaven and on earth had been given to Him. It was upon this authority that He was sending His disciples to the nations. And it was with His promised presence, accompanied by three emphatic assurances, to convict them.
The same commission is for anyone who calls themselves a Christ follower today. It is upon the same authority that Jesus is sending us out to make disciples of all nations some 2,000 years later. And it is with the same promised presence, the Holy Spirit, that surely is with us always, to the very end of the age. As disciples of Christ who are set apart by God for His purposes, we are compelled to step out in faith to fulfil the mission that He has called us to.
Reflect & Respond
- Reflect on Jesus’ words in today’s passage. Is His Great Commission command worth responding to?
- Pray for yourself, and another believer in Ekklesia Camp, to actively engage in fulfilling the Great Commission locally and globally.
