Ekklesia: God’s Idea of Church

DAY 10 OF 14

Day 10: Fight together

As followers of Christ, we find ourselves in a spiritual war against Satan and the spiritual powers of darkness. We face a powerful army seeking to thwart the church of Christ. When we become believers in Christ, Satan and the spiritual forces of evil will make repeated attempts to turn us away from Jesus. Although we are assured of victory because of Jesus, we must still engage in the spiritual war until Christ returns, because Satan will persist in waging war against every person who is on the side of Christ.

As the body of Christ, we have been given a divine set of armour, which includes both defensive and offensive weapons. We have the complete armour of God from head to foot – the belt, breastplate, shoes, shield, helmet, and sword. These are metaphors for spiritual resources available to us in Christ. Interestingly though, while we have been given the full armour of God, the back of this armour is noticeably bare and very much exposed. Why would God leave us vulnerable in such armour?

This message about the armour of God was not only meant for individual believers, but for the church body as a whole. God intends for us to protect one another and fight together in this battle against Satan. Lone soldiers make for easy prey, and God does not want any of us to enter battle alone. Instead, we enter battle by watching one another’s backs. We look out for our comrades. We fight together. And together, by putting on the full armour of God and holding our position in unity, we will defeat the enemy.

Reflect & Respond

  • How have you seen fellow believers fight together against spiritual warfare?
  • What can you practically do to fight the good fight alongside brothers and sisters in Christ?
