Made New: A 15–Day Devotional on Colossians 3 With Jada EdwardsSample

When we join God’s family, God gives us His name. Sometimes we offer Him most of our lives, but we keep some of our old habits or behaviors. In today’s devotional, Jada reminds us that God wants all of you.
Reflect
As Christians, we bear the name of Jesus and gain a new identity. We cease to be “number one” and, instead, make Jesus the priority in our lives. What do you think it would look like for you to prioritize Jesus more in your life?
Jada’s story about her son making sure his room was “Mommy clean” reminds us to be careful about labeling our choices as something God approves of. He wants us to “do everything with [His] name on it,” as Jada paraphrased verse 17. As we grow to know Him, we better understand His standards, His will, and what He desires from us. How well do you know God’s standards? What can you do to gain a deeper understanding of Jesus?
Respond
God claims every part of our lives, not just our Sunday mornings and weekly church activities. Everything from your work to how well you treat your body to the way you interact with others on the internet is meant to reflect Jesus.
What areas of your life are you keeping from the Lord? Write down your answer and share your commitment to change with a trusted friend whom you’ll allow to check in with you regarding that struggle. Pray for an obedient heart, then take the first step in submitting your whole self to God.

About this Plan

Christians have been given a new life, but if we’re not careful, we can revert to our old ways. In this fifteen-session devotional series, Jada Edwards walks through Colossians 3, examining the ways Christ has changed us. When you set your mind on Christ, your life will reflect his character and priorities. Where have you focused your heart, mind, and effort?
