Made New: A 15–Day Devotional on Colossians 3 With Jada EdwardsSample

In a world where “truth” is often whatever a person wants it to be, Christians can know beyond a doubt what’s true when we are reading, listening, thinking, and meditating on God’s very words. In today’s devotional, Jada reminds us that God is truth and He offers Himself to us.
Reflect
Through the Bible, God has given us access to truths about Himself and our world. When we spend time in His Word, we become more familiar with God and His will. The psalms encourage us to meditate on all of God’s Word, not just to cherry-pick our way through when we need help. What does your time studying the Bible look like? Do you tend to open it only when you need God’s help, or do you spend regular time reading or studying His Word?
Jada described Scripture as a daily vitamin to nourish our souls rather than a medicine we take occasionally to fix a problem. Which of her metaphors best describes your own Bible reading habit? What new habits could deepen your current Bible study routine?
When we’ve been marinating in Scripture, the truth takes root in our minds and, when a situation arises, the Spirit can remind us of His Word. His wisdom becomes ours. In what ways could having God’s Word ready in your mind be helpful during a difficult conversation? When you’re faced with an immediate decision?
Respond
Reading Scripture introduces us to God. And the closer our intimacy with God, the greater our eagerness to worship Him. As our love and worship of God grow, we’re drawn back to His Word so we can know Him even more deeply. It is a cycle that drives us ever deeper into God’s love and wisdom.
Evaluate your current Bible study habits. Now, look at your calendar. What do you need to change in order to weave God’s Word into your life? Add “Bible” to your daily calendar. If you aren’t sure where to start in the Bible, consider the Gospel of John. As you read, seek to learn about Jesus—who He is, what He is doing, and His love for you.
