Awestruck: 30 Days of Wonder in the BibleSample

Elijah was exhausted, afraid, and hiding in a cave.
Not long before, he’d watched fire fall from heaven on Mount Carmel. If anyone expected God to keep showing up in dramatic ways, it was Elijah.
But this time, the Lord wasn't in the wind.
He wasn't in the earthquake.
He wasn't in the fire.
Instead, He came in a “gentle whisper,” or in the Hebrew phrase, "the sound of sheer silence."
God isn't bound to spectacle. His power is no less real when it comes clothed in stillness.
I think about this when life feels overwhelming and I'm desperately looking for God to show up in some big, obvious way. When I need answers and direction, I often want the burning bush or the parting sea. But more often than not, God meets me in the quiet moments when I finally stop talking and start listening.
Here's the wonder: God still speaks this way.
The clarity we look for isn't about volume, it's about closeness.
God is close. Turn off what distracts. Lean in to listen.
Try this: turn off notifications for two minutes. Read one verse slowly. Sit with it in the quiet. Don't rush to fill the space. Let God's whisper meet you there.
Reflect:
How might reading the Bible slowly, as if listening for a whisper, change your experience of Scripture?
Tomorrow we'll read hopeful words written in a dark hour.
