How to Pray for Anyone

DAY 3 OF 7

PRAYING FOR OTHERS TO EXPERIENCE GOD'S PEACE

We long for peace in our world, our workplaces, and our homes. The drivenness of our culture pushes out the margin we could have had for stillness, and the consequence of sin continually wreaks havoc on the steadiness our souls long for.

Numbers 6:24-26 reminds us that peace is a blessing from God Himself. It's not up for grabs or debate, as much as the enemy would like us to think otherwise. Peace is an effect of experiencing God's presence in our lives, and thank God there's nowhere we can go that his presence won't pursue us.

In Scripture, we can observe that His peace is always a benefit of being in His will and trusting in His character. Is there someone in your life looking for peace? In praying for God's peace to invade their minds, hearts, and souls, you are asking God to remind them of who He is and His good and pleasing will for their lives. We can ask God to allow peace that goes beyond understanding, because his goodness likewise knows no bounds. Because peace is a result of great trust in God and gratitude for his presence in our lives, we have ample opportunity to pray for peace in our lives and in the lives of those we love.

As a fruit of the Spirit, peace is cultivated by walking with the Spirit. A life of peace is intentional, made choice by choice. We can pray for our choices and the choices of others to reflect trust and gratitude in God, and peace will inevitably follow in all areas of life. The water around us may be unsettled in our relationships, our work, and our world, but we do not have to be. Ask God for reminders of his character for you and those you know looking for peace. Pray for His Word to be a lamp to your feet and a light to your path. As you follow his lead and experience peace from keeping your mind focused on Jesus, invite others to join you, praying that God's peace would be transformative in their lives as well.

QUESTIONS FOR REFLECTION:

  • Who do you know in your life who is looking for peace? How can you pray one of these Scriptures over them?
  • Are there places in your life that you are looking for peace outside of God's presence and will for your life? Ask God to reset your focus on Him, allowing you to be kept in perfect peace once again.
