Love It! 30 Days of Inspiration in Psalm 119Sample

Day 9 Psalm 119:65-72 Goodness in God’s Discipline
“Teth” whispers of God’s goodness, even when the lessons come wrapped in trials and correction. Psalm 119:65-72 shows us that God’s discipline is unlike the world’s correction. It’s not meant to punish, but to guide, shape, and grow us.
The Hebrew letter “Teth” means “good.” Here, it points directly to God and His ways. The psalmist draws our attention to the Lord, acknowledging that He has done good things for us. If we tried to list all the good things God has done, we would run out of paper and ink. Just sending Jesus to save us would’ve been enough.
Even when His dealings involve trials, the psalmist recognizes God’s goodness. You may have asked the age-old question: “Why do bad things happen to good people?” Psalm 119 doesn’t give all the answers, but verse 69 points the way: “You are good and do only good; teach me your decrees.” Hardship can deepen our understanding of God’s Word, refine our hearts, and reveal His faithfulness and absolute goodness.
This doesn’t make difficulties easier, but it reminds us of God’s nature: He is a good, good Father; a mighty Lord and Savior; a holy and powerful God. Sovereign, creative, omniscient, He is present in every detail of our lives, offering comfort and guidance when trials come.
When God disciplines, it is always for our good. His correction is never punitive but from His loving hand. He gently steers us back onto the path of life. Discipline may feel uncomfortable or painful, but it's never arbitrary.
Verse 71 reflects this truth: “My suffering was good for me, for it taught me to pay attention to your decrees.” Hardship becomes a patient teacher, awakening our dependence on God, sharpening our discernment, and strengthening our faith. Even when we stumble or stray, His loving hand quietly shapes our hearts to reflect His image.
God’s discipline reflects His heart for His children. He doesn’t leave us in our sinful state but lovingly guides us toward His ways. What a good God He is!
Question: How has God used difficulty to grow you?
Prayer: Lord, thank You for Your correction and redirection. We know You are good and do only good. Help us to remember Your goodness even when things don’t go as we planned. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
