When You Wonder WhySample

Who Is Jesus?
Jesus is God’s eternal Son and Israel’s Messiah, the promised Savior. Through Jesus, we can know God.
Jesus was born in a stable and grew up in a small village where he worked as a carpenter. From the outside, he appeared to have little power or social status, but his words and presence gave people healing, forgiveness and new life. Jesus proclaimed the good news of God’s kingdom and performed great miracles everywhere he went. Crowds of people followed after him, but the political and religious leaders were suspicious of him. Some believed he would create a political uprising, while others believed his teachings were blasphemous. Ultimately, they decided to have him killed.
But Jesus was much more than a prophet or a carpenter. John 1 describes Jesus as the Word who was with God from the beginning and was himself God. Everything was made through Jesus, and without him, nothing was made. Jesus, being both fully man and fully God, came to earth to carry our sins and set us free. Jesus laid down his own life on the cross to defeat the powers of sin and death. Three days later, he rose from the grave, proving once and for all that he was God’s Son and the promised Savior of the world.
Jesus said he is the way, the truth and the life. Following him means walking in his ways, obeying his commandments and taking up our own cross. It won’t be easy. We have to die to our desire to do things our way by surrendering to his will. But as we do so, we know we have the everlasting life that God intended for us since the beginning.
