Three Years in 30 Days: Jesus' Life and Mission

DAY 8 OF 30

Jesus conquered death

“He is not here, for He has risen, as He said. Come, see the place where He lay.” (Matthew 28:6 ESV)

Jesus' resurrection is at the heart of the Christian faith. Three days after His death, He left the tomb by His own power. Jesus died on the cross to bear the punishment for our sins. But, if He had not risen from the dead, Jesus would have been nothing more than a powerful example for us. Through Adam, death entered the world (Genesis 3:17-24). Through Jesus, eternal life entered the world once again. Jesus was the first to come to life, never to die again. With that, the power of death was broken forever.

Jesus' resurrection power wants to give us, as believers, the strength to live as children of God every day. Jesus' resurrection gives us the assurance that all God's children will follow Him in this; to live never to die again (1 Corinthians 15:20-26). Take heart when life gets tough. Jesus keeps His promise for you too: Sin and death really are coming to an end. Jesus has the last word.

This event is so important because through Jesus' resurrection, we are given eternal life in God's presence. A life in which all tears, suffering, and sins are gone.

Take the time to read 1 Corinthians 15:12-26.

  • Why is it so important to believe that Jesus rose from the dead?
