Awakening Faith: Hope From the Global ChurchSample

Salt and Light
There is a movement happening in the marketplace. Men and women are discovering that their calling doesn’t stop at the church doors but flows into boardrooms, break rooms, and factory floors.
I sat with a business leader who shared a story I’ll never forget. During the hardest economic moments of COVID, an opportunity came across his desk. A nearby competitor was barely holding on. Without access to key imports, the company was weeks from collapse. In the cutthroat world of business, the choice seemed obvious: buy them out for pennies.
But as he prayed, he sensed God’s voice leading him another way. Instead of exploiting weakness, he picked up the phone. He told his competitor, “I’ll sell you the products at cost until you can recover.”
On the other end of the line came silence. Then, through tears, the man asked, “Why would you do this?” The answer was simple: “Because I too was once an enemy—and Christ showed me grace.”
This leader wasn’t chasing business advantage; he was chasing Kingdom opportunity. His decision lit up a dark place with the unmistakable glow of Jesus’ love.
Jesus said, “You are the salt of the earth… You are the light of the world.” Salt preserves, light exposes, and both point to a greater reality found in the presence of Christ.
Where can your light shine in an overlooked place?
