Walking Toward Wholeness
“He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners” (Luke 4:18)
Human trafficking is a global reality that thrives in places where safety, stability, and opportunity have been eroded. It takes many forms—labor exploitation, forced marriage, and sex trafficking—and often targets the most vulnerable. Around the world, churches and ministries are joining God in the work of restoration and walking with people on their journey toward freedom and dignity.
The Evangelical Covenant Church responds through the FREE initiative, which equips churches to pray, learn, give, and act alongside local and international partners. This work is rooted in the conviction that every person is created in God’s image (Genesis 1:27) and is worthy of love, safety, and purpose. Scripture reveals God’s heart for those who are vulnerable and mistreated—from Hagar, whom God saw and protected in the wilderness (Genesis 16), to the women Jesus restored to dignity and community (Luke 8:43–48; John 8:1–11). God’s mission of freedom is never abstract; it is personal, relational, and embodied in the lives of those he loves.
One example comes from Pune, India, where the Hindustani Covenant Church operates the Home of Hope. Women leaving the city’s red-light district can find a safe place to heal, learn, and build a new future. Pooja’s story is one of many. Through the support and skills training she received, she discovered a gift for jewelry-making that became a source of steady income. That financial independence allowed her to pay for her son’s schooling, meet medical needs, and move into her own home. Her journey reflects the strength and potential God has placed within each person, nurtured through a community of shared faith and care.
When we serve side-by-side in Christ’s name, we reflect his compassion and the inherent worth of every individual created by God. In these spaces, freedom is not only the absence of exploitation—it is the presence of community, opportunity, and restored identity.
Reflection Question
Where in your own community might God be inviting you to come alongside others, listening, encouraging, and working together for freedom and restoration?
Prayer Points
- For those experiencing exploitation to find safety, dignity, and hope
- For churches and ministries to serve with wisdom, humility, and compassion
- For survivors to discover their God-given gifts and opportunities for a new future
Prayer
Lord, you are the one who proclaims freedom and brings healing to the broken. Open our eyes to see those who are vulnerable, and give us the courage to walk with them in compassion and hope. May our actions reflect your love, and our presence bear witness to your restoring power. Amen.

About this Plan

Global Gospel is a 30-day devotional exploring what it means to join God’s mission in the world. Through Scripture reflections and personal stories from diverse regions, contributors share moments of entering new communities as the stranger and finding welcome through Christ’s love. As you pray and reflect with the global church, may these voices inspire you to live out the gospel—nearby, across cultures, and to the ends of the earth.
