God's Optimal Health Plan for You

DAY 7 OF 30

What Shall We Eat?

Do you ever wonder if God cares about what we eat? The Bible offers clear guidance on what we should eat, emphasizing both physical health and spiritual obedience. In the Old Testament, God gave the Israelites dietary laws through Moses, including clean and unclean animals listed in Leviticus 11 and Deuteronomy 14. These laws were meant to set God’s people apart and teach them discipline and holiness. God also provided manna in the wilderness (Exodus 16), showing that He is the source of nourishment and can be trusted to meet daily needs. The focus wasn’t only on the food itself but on trusting and obeying God’s instruction.

In the New Testament, the emphasis shifts from strict dietary laws to freedom guided by love, wisdom, and conscience. In Mark 7:18–19, Jesus declared all foods clean, teaching that what defiles a person comes from the heart, not from what they eat. Paul later echoed this in 1 Corinthians 10:31, urging believers to eat and drink in a way that glorifies God. While Christians are free to eat a variety of foods, Scripture encourages gratitude, self-control, and care for the body as a temple of the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 6:19–20). The overarching message is that food should not become a source of division or idolatry, but a tool for honoring God and living wisely.

From our experience, God-made food (produce) from seed-bearing, organic sources is the right choice. When grocery shopping, look at the labels on your produce. The first number reveals the source, #9 indicates organic, #8 indicates genetically altered, and all other numbers indicate some type of additional chemical. An example of organic would be #97343; genetically engineered would be #86458. Ask God today for His wisdom when making the best healthy food choices for you and your family.
