Weary: Holding on to God's Word in Hard TimesSample

Goodness and Mercy
In Psalm 23, David describes God as a present, faithful, and comforting shepherd—qualities of God that I really needed to hold on to when I was graduating college last year and grappling with all the uncertainties ahead (e.g., getting a job, adjusting to work life, saying goodbye to friends, and paying for all kinds of insurance).
This verse reminds me not to worry, but to rest in the truth that God is with me, and that I can trust Him to take care of me. I hope that you would also feel that sense of assurance and joy when reading this verse.
I’ve been out of college for a year now, and things haven’t gone exactly as planned. I’ve found new things to worry about—and yes, I’ve even had to file insurance claims. But I’m becoming more convinced that God hasn’t brought me this far to just abandon me; His Holy Spirit is continually at work, shaping and sanctifying me. And because of that, I’ll keep leaning into His guidance, delighting in His faithfulness, and rejoicing in His goodness and mercy.
Reflection:
- Are there areas in your life right now where you struggle to trust that God will take care of you?
- How do you think God’s character in Psalm 23 speaks to those areas?
Prayer:
Dear God, help me to rest knowing that you’re a good shepherd and that I can trust you with my life. I pray that you will help me grow in gratitude and enable me to respond to where you lead. In Jesus Name, Amen.
