Carpe Mentality: 12 Days to Seizing Your Best Life in ChristSample

Mission: Your Calling in Life
Certainty is something we all crave. Discovering your specific calling is Habit 2. If you do not know it, you will be living in an uncertain state. When you are certain about your calling, then beyond what you could imagine, that ignites your purpose and passion. Are you ready to stop limiting your purpose and passion for life?
I believe that every person is uniquely designed and created as God intended. There is not one person who is the same as another. We might seem the same on the surface, but we all have a uniqueness factor. A different serial code. It makes us special. With that uniqueness, God has created us for a specific reason. A unique mission.
As stated in the previous chapter, I discovered my Foundation on July 15, 2001. It was not until summertime of 2019 that I started the process to discover my Mission.
After a few months of putting in the work—journaling, praying, and meditating—I discovered my mission. It hit me like a ton of bricks. It was November 2019. I went for a short, eight-mile run on a frosty, gloomy day.
During this run—right in the midst of it, “in the zone,”—I began thinking about creating a new business. As I was thinking of a business mission statement for this company—still running, my legs rhythmically encouraging my thoughts to flow—I randomly thought: What is my personal mission statement? I know it for business. What about for me personally?
What I realized was that when thinking about what my mission was, I was not following my own system of A through Z. I was trying to skip steps.
Began asking questions like: “Where do I want to be at the end of my life? What accomplishments do I want to achieve?” I had already posed these questions to myself, but too casually. I needed to probe more—and in the right sequence. Envisioning how I would get to where I wanted to be at the end of my life, I tried to uncover more about myself. Don’t flinch, I told myself. What am I good at? What are my talents? What sort of things come naturally to me? How can I profit not financially but spiritually and emotionally from my mission? Selfishly, what do I want to do with my life? Who do I want to be? How can I become the superhero of my story?” Suddenly, in that runner’s high, in an instant of peak understanding, all the answers came rushing through my head—telling me my mission in limpid clarity.
It was amazing. So simple. Right in front of my face. How had I not seen it? My mission is “To Build a Legacy of Faith in Christ, Love for other People, & the Freedom Found in Enterprise.”
Once I came up with the words that impacted my soul, then my mission glowed to me, in its clarity. Certainty pumped through my body. I became unstoppable.
If you want to master this second authentic habit—of discovering your mission—I recommend you practice three activities: Journal, Pray, and Meditate. One: buy a journal and start regularly writing your thoughts down. Two: pray aloud. This will help you process your thoughts. Three: meditate on a single thought.
The beginning of understanding is knowing yourself. Knowing yourself is the beginning of knowing your calling. Knowing your calling is to understand your mission.
No one can stop you but yourself. Pursue your purpose and passion by understanding what your authentic mission is in this life. There is no time like the present. Carpe NOW! The Latin phrase carpe diem means “seize the day.” I like to say carpe now: seize the moment! Seize this very moment to become your best version. To discover your authentic self by discovering your specific mission in life. Now is the time to get to work. See your future self beckoning.
