The Chosen and Friends: God With UsSample

The Lord's Prayer
From Phil Wickham
The more time we spend with God, the more our hearts will align with heaven, and our desire will be to see His desires fulfilled.
This is one of the primary purposes of prayer, which is simply a two-way point of connection between us and our Creator. Or as my pastor growing up—Pastor Ray—would always say: “Prayer is just a fancy word for talking with God.”
Our prayer closet is more than a place for petitions. It’s a portal for connection with our heavenly Father. In the clip you just watched from The Chosen, Jesus says, “Prayer is the first step toward getting the mind and the heart right.” While these words aren’t a direct quote from Scripture, I believe they accurately represent Jesus’ heart for us, and they help us understand this passage. I love that the directors chose to highlight just the first two verses of the Lord’s Prayer in this clip, which I believe set the tone for understanding the rest of the prayer he gives them: “Your kingdom come. Your will be done.”
My good friend John Mark Comer has released powerful content on the concept of “being with Jesus, becoming like Jesus, and doing as He did.” And this is exactly how the disciples are represented in this episode. First, they spent time with Jesus and learned to become like Him—by praying as He prayed. Then they went out and did as He did, teaching others to pray in the same way.
This is the model we’re called to follow, and as we delight ourselves in the Lord, He will give us the desires of our hearts, because we become more like Him as we behold Him. Thus, our desires align with His.
So, as we read this passage, we must remember that prayer is more than just asking God to do things for us. Prayer is spending time with Him in right relationship, to praise Him for His power, and then to watch Him move mountains in our lives as we align ourselves with Him and His heart.
When we rest in His presence, His peace leads us into His purposes, and His desires become our desires.
