Are you stuck in shame from past mistakes, failures, missteps, or sins?

I’ve certainly been there.

And that’s exactly where the Samaritan woman found herself, too. Society had cast her aside because of her sin, and she didn’t know where to take her pain.

She was stuck.

Culturally, there were many reasons why Jesus shouldn’t have been speaking to the woman at that well. Yet, He went out of His way to offer her the only kind of water that can set a captive heart free.

In this moment, for the first time in Scripture, Jesus reveals that He is indeed the Messiah. The Samaritan woman responds by going back to her village to tell anyone who will listen, “Come and see a man who told me everything I ever did.” In doing so, she is laying down her sin in exchange for Jesus’ forgiveness. She is laying down her past in exchange for her new, God-given identity. She is laying down her shame in exchange for His love.

We, too, have this hope every time we fall short. No matter how many times you mess up or wrestle with that sin, God invites you through Jesus to come to Him and drink the living water that quenches a weary soul.

Take your troubled heart to the only One who can truly mend it and show you the path to freedom.
