Giving Challenge

DAY 9 OF 11

You Can Give Regularly

Some people are impulse shoppers. I can be an impulse giver. I am not ashamed of that; it is fantastic to be moved by a story or ministry and want to support it. But while those big emotional moments matter, Scripture invites us to an additional rhythm: giving regularly.

Paul instructs the church in 1 Corinthians 16:2 to set aside a portion of their income every week for the work of God’s Kingdom. This was not a spur-of-the-moment decision. It was a discipline, a habit, a regular rhythm of generosity. Why? Because when we give regularly, we make generosity a lifestyle rather than a once-in-a-while event.

There are opportunities to give all around us every day. Galatians 6:10 reminds us, "Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers" (NIV). From helping those in need to serving within our church family, regular giving ensures that we stay alert and ready to respond. When generosity becomes a rhythm, we no longer wait for the perfect opportunity; we are already living with open hands.

Hebrews 13:16 encourages us, "And do not forget to do good and to share with others, for with such sacrifices God is pleased" (NIV). Notice the word "forget." It is easy to get so caught up in our schedules and emotions that generosity gets squeezed out. Regular giving ensures that it does not get forgotten but instead becomes a natural part of how we live.

Regular giving does not only apply to finances. It is about regularly giving your time, attention, encouragement, prayers, and service. Just as God’s mercies are new every morning, our generosity can also be renewed each day.

When we give regularly, we train our hearts to trust God more. We begin to see generosity not as a duty, but as a rhythm that brings joy and blesses others.

Challenge:
This week, choose one practical way to make giving a regular part of your life. It might mean setting up a recurring gift to your church or a ministry, scheduling weekly time to serve someone, or committing to write one encouraging note each day. Add it to your calendar, and let generosity become a part of your routine.
