Your Own Personal Jesus

When I first heard the Depeche Mode song Personal Jesus, I wasn’t sure if it was a Christian song or just using Christ to get attention. But the chorus stuck in my head, and I started thinking about what it meant to me. In a way, I felt it was true—I have a personal Jesus, and so do you. He is with us every day, giving us hope, whispering advice, and guiding us through His Word.

It’s interesting because we all feel His presence differently. That’s why I believe the idea of having our own personal Jesus isn’t far from the truth. Maybe that wasn’t the songwriter’s intention, but who knows—perhaps God used him in a personal way to spread His message. Even Johnny Cash, a well-known believer in Christ, re-recorded the song and said, "That’s probably the most evangelical song I’ve ever recorded. I don’t know that the writer ever meant it to be that, but that’s what it is.”

See, sometimes God shows up even when we don’t expect it. “The heart of man plans his way, but the Lord establishes his steps.” (Proverbs 16:9)
