Shining God's Light to OthersSample

Shine Wherever You Go
Nathan looked out the window and saw tiny flickers of light in the night sky. They were lightning bugs!
“Mom, Dad, come quick!” he shouted.
His parents ran into the room thinking something must be wrong. But when they saw the lightning bugs, they laughed and said, “Let’s go outside and watch them!”
As they sat on the front porch, Nathan’s dad said, “Lightning bugs are also called fireflies. God created them with special chemicals inside their tummies. When the chemicals mix with oxygen, their tummies light up.”
“Wow!” Nathan exclaimed. He thought lightning bugs were SO cool! Then he had an idea. He ran inside and grabbed his flashlight. He turned it off and on, imitating a firefly.
“You know,” his mom said, “this reminds me of a Bible verse. Matthew 5:16 says, ‘Let your light shine before others’” (niv). She went on to explain that letting your light shine means living for Jesus by being kind, helpful, and friendly.
Nathan smiled as he clicked his flashlight on and off. “Then I’m gonna let my light shine everywhere I go!”
Here’s a prayer to take with you: “Lord, help me shine the light of Your love in this world and offer kindness wherever I go. Amen.”
