"It Is Finished" (John 19:30)

With His final breath, Jesus declares: "It is finished." The Greek word He uses is τετέλεσται (tetelestai), a powerful term meaning paid in full, completed, or fulfilled.

This is not a cry of defeat but of victory. The work of salvation is complete. Jesus has:

• Fulfilled the Law — every prophecy, every requirement (Matthew 5:17).
• Paid the full penalty for sin — the debt of humanity is canceled (Colossians 2:14).
• Overcome the powers of darkness — Satan is defeated (Colossians 2:15).

The Old Testament sacrificial system is no longer needed — Jesus is the once-for-all sacrifice (Hebrews 9:12). The veil in the temple, which separates people from God’s presence, is torn from top to bottom. Access to the Father is now open to all who believe.

Prayer

Jesus, Your work is complete. You have done everything necessary to save me. I no longer need to strive for approval, because You have declared, "It is finished." Help me to rest in Your grace and to walk in the freedom of Your victory. Amen.
