3 - LORD'S PRAYER - the Lord´s RequirementsSample

07 – Hallowed Be!
We often repeat the words, “Hallowed be Your name,” but we do not always pause to ask ourselves how and where God’s name can be sanctified. Let us first reflect on what the word “name” meant when Jesus used it in this prayer.
Jesus spoke of the “Name of God,” right? But the depth of this expression goes far beyond an ordinary name or a label used to identify someone.
In biblical times, a name carried far more weight than it does today. It represented the fullness of the person—their entire being: power, authority, character, reputation, and identity, from title to personality.
In this context, the “Name” referred to the Lord God, the Creator of heaven and earth and everything in them. God’s Name is God Himself—who He is in His very essence, and how He has revealed Himself to us.
We saw that the Hebrew people revered the “Name of God” so deeply that they would not even write or pronounce it. It was represented by the unutterable letters YHWH, meaning “I AM WHO I AM.”
So the question arises: How could that Name be sanctified back then? And how can it be sanctified here and now? God’s Name is already holy, yet in this prayer we ask that it may be treated as holy.
The prophet Isaiah proclaims that God is “Holy, Holy, Holy,” pointing to three distinct areas where His Name should be sanctified: in the world, in the church, and in the human heart—in us.
We will reflect on these in the next meditations. Shall we?

About this Plan

The well-known Lord's Prayer, taught by Jesus to his disciples, can be divided, for study purposes, into two parts. The first addresses God's demands: his dwelling, his person, his kingdom, and his will. The second half addresses humanity's demands: their needs for bread, forgiveness, and deliverance. Let us, in this context, address the first part of the prayer.
