13 – Your Will

Millions of people repeat the words “Your will be done” without knowing what God’s will is! Others know, but are not interested in seeing it fulfilled. Perhaps we ourselves do not take these words seriously when we pray them; yet God’s will and its practice are the most important reality at all times. In order to do God’s will, we must first know it.

God’s will is revealed in the precise mathematics of the stars in the sky and in the immeasurable forces within an atom. But the greatest demonstration of His will was the birth of Jesus Christ!

God’s will was also manifested in the creation of humankind, but our good relationship with our Creator was broken by our own will. At that point, by His gracious will, God sent His Son as a man to reconcile us to Himself. This is the miracle of our Father’s will!

Many believe God’s will is mostly expressed in the Ten Commandments. Yet there are many other instructions: what to eat and drink, how to use our minds and thoughts, how to work, earn, and spend money, how to treat family and neighbor.

We are instructed about obedience to laws, the paying of taxes and debts, human relationships, sexual conduct, and so much more. If we want to know God’s will, we must read the Bible—the book where He expresses all these things. If we do not, we are mistaken, for the Scriptures reveal God’s will so that we may live joyfully.

But it is not enough to study the Bible or even to know God’s will. More than that, it must be practiced!
