Day 2: Are You a Good Listener?

One day, after a busy morning of meetings and errands, I picked up my son from school. As we pulled into our driveway, I realized that he had been talking to me the whole way home. The demands of the day had distracted my thoughts, and I missed participating in a conversation with my very precious son. I had been too distracted to listen and missed the entire conversation!

I often wonder if this is how we are with Jesus. So often we want to hear God speak, but the busyness of life distracts us from the very conversation Jesus is wanting to have with us. Maybe even a conversation He has been waiting all day to have.

Mary and Martha in Luke chapter 10 are great examples of this. While Jesus was speaking, in their very home, Martha was so distracted by all the work that needed to be done that she missed everything Jesus had to say. Mary, on the other hand, chose to set the busyness aside and positioned herself at Jesus’ feet so that she could focus on all that Jesus had to say. For Mary, the conversation with Jesus was more valuable to her than all the work that needed to be accomplished.

Sweet Sister, is it possible that God has been speaking to you this whole time, but you have been too busy to actually hear what He has to say? Will you set aside the busyness, come and sit at the feet of Jesus, and choose the good part? Jesus has so much He wants to say to you!

“But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.” Matthew‬ ‭6‬:‭33‬ (‭NKJV‬)‬

Ask yourself today: Am I too busy to hear Jesus? Find a quiet moment, turn off distractions, and listen for His loving voice.
