Running Life's Race on God's Team

DAY 1 OF 6

We Weren’t Meant to Race Alone

Have you ever considered the parallels between life and racing? Both are filled with strategy, decision-making, challenges, surprises, victories, and defeats, regardless of the length or type. In racing, whose team you are on really matters. Certain teams have better equipment, personnel, or funds than others. All teams have their own cultures and philosophies on how to achieve victory in their racing series. Race strategists, engineers, and drivers move to different teams because of these differences in resources, personnel, and cultures. Drivers know that what team they are with can determine a lot of their success as a driver and their place in racing history.

While the racecar driver is the most public persona of a race team, it is not a solo sport. Behind every great driver is a great team in any racing series. A driver needs to have an amazing race strategist or crew chief that can think quickly on his feet and rally the team despite whatever challenges arise. He needs to have a quick pit crew that does its service excellently and efficiently. In some cases, he needs to have a spotter that can see things happening ahead or behind him and communicate information in a way the driver understands. A driver needs to have an amazing car underneath him, meticulously poured over and tuned by the best engineers, engine tuners, and mechanics. A racecar driver can trust a team like this and, in the end, emerge victorious in the race.

The same is true in life. Our philosophies of life, strategies to get through challenges, problems, relationships, work, and other facets of life, and who we place around us make a big difference in the life we live. Ultimately, running life’s race on God’s team is the only way that ends in absolute victory (see John 14:6). Luckily, God has given us a race-winning strategy to get through life victoriously. By placing our faith in Him, we can live an abundant life, making an eternal difference while on earth, and live eternally with Him after we have died physically. He has given us His Word in Scripture to call the strategy for our life, and through every heartbreak, disappointment, physical ailment, or struggle, he is there to bring us through. Jesus guides us through life like a spotter, and the Holy Spirit gives us the power to execute this strategy God has given us as our crew chief. Over the next few days, we will look at the roles God plays on our race team in life. Then you will be able to choose the best team to run life’s race. We were not meant to race alone. We were made to run life’s race on God’s team.

About this Plan

Running Life's Race on God's Team

Racing and following Jesus have many parallels. In the end, both lead to victory! This plan explores living a victorious life in Christ by comparing how he works in our lives with a motorsport team. This plan is a great way to explain what it means to follow Jesus and his life-changing work to a race fan. We were not meant to run this race of life on our own. Running life's race on God's team can lead us to victory through Christ!
