DAY 3 OF 30

Day 3: El Elyon – The Most High God

Devotional:

El Elyon Means Most High God.

This powerful title points to God’s supreme authority over all creation, above every ruler, every nation, and every power that exists. The phrase “Most High” emphasizes that God is exalted, sovereign, and unmatched in power and majesty.

The first biblical mention of El Elyon is in Genesis 14:18-20, when Melchizedek, king and priest, blesses Abram by declaring, “Blessed be Abram by God Most High, Creator of heaven and earth.” This moment is significant because it affirms that the God Abram worships is not just a tribal deity but the supreme God over all the earth.

El Elyon declares that the true God reigns supreme over them in a world where many forces compete for power, kings, gods, and nations. No one compares to Him. No throne is higher. His sovereignty is absolute, extending from heaven to earth.

El Elyon Recognizes His Authority Over Our Lives

The Most High God is not a distant, powerless figure but a reigning King who governs all with wisdom and justice. He holds the entire universe and controls history’s course according to His perfect will.

Understanding God as El Elyon invites awe and worship. It reminds us that God is exalted above every circumstance, every trial, and every force we might face. When we feel overwhelmed or powerless, we can turn to the Most High God, who is greater than any problem.

El Elyon Lacks Nothing

Melchizedek’s blessing also points to God’s provision and peace. As priest of El Elyon, he brought bread and wine, symbols of sustenance and fellowship. God, as the Most High, is not just a distant monarch but also a provider and sustainer of life. He cares deeply for His creation and desires a relationship with us.

Throughout Scripture, El Elyon reminds us that no earthly power or authority surpasses God. He is above governments, kings, and rulers. This authority is a comforting truth in political uncertainty or personal hardship. God’s sovereignty is unshakable.

For believers, knowing God as El Elyon strengthens our faith and hope. We do not serve a powerless god but the Most High, who can intervene in any situation. We can confidently pray, knowing our God is the highest power in the universe.

This name also calls us to surrender our desires and submit to God’s will. Recognizing God as Most High means trusting His plan, even when we do not understand it. It means acknowledging His authority over our lives and honoring Him as King.

Our daily walk reminds us that God is exalted and worthy of praise. The heavens declare His glory (Psalm 19:1), and His kingdom reigns forever. El Elyon invites us to worship Him in spirit and truth, recognizing His unmatched greatness.

Reflect on your life today. Are there areas where you struggle to acknowledge God’s authority? Are there challenges that seem too big? Turn your heart to El Elyon, the Most High God who reigns over all. Find peace in His supremacy and rest in His loving control.

Prayer:

El Elyon, you are the Most High God, sovereign over heaven and earth. I praise you for your unmatched power and majesty. Help me to trust your authority in every part of my life and to submit to your perfect will. Strengthen my faith to rest in your sovereign care, knowing you hold everything. May I worship you with awe and obedience all my days. It is in the name of Jesus we pray, amen.

Reflection Questions:

  1. How does knowing God is the Most High God impact your view of your circumstances?
  2. How can you submit more fully to God’s authority in your life?
  3. How can you cultivate awe and worship for God’s supreme majesty daily?
