Raising a Dead Woman’s Son

Compassion - that is what marked Jesus’ time on earth. During His three years of ministry, He saw the crowds and felt compassion for them. He would be tired and in need of rest, but never turned away the people who followed Him, bringing their sick and possessed to Him to receive healing and deliverance.

In this instance, He saw a funeral procession and interrupted it with His resurrection power. The young man was all his mother had, and seeing her tears moved Jesus to touch the funeral bier and call him back to life. Jesus knew this boy and his mother’s life inside out since He was the author of their story. He knew the desolation she would feel in losing her only son. He took their situation into account and acted accordingly.

When you look back at your life, if you examine it closely, you will discover the thread of God’s compassion holding every element together consistently! It is His deep and unrelenting love that carries us throughout our lives on earth. It is not our street smarts, our intelligence, our connections, or our goodness that hold us, but His gracious and unending love. He knows every detail of your life, and with compassion, He gently leads you through it all.

This is important to remember, especially when tragedies hit us and we are left in shock, because it grounds us in the unshakeable reality that nothing can separate us from the love of God. Your health issue, your broken heart, your bruised ego, your empty bank balance or your depleted strength cannot take God’s love away from you.
