“30 Pictures of Jesus” 30 Day Plan

DAY 4 OF 30

Today we see Jesus as the Bread of Life.

When God brought Israel out of Egypt, the people grumbled in the wilderness. Hungry and afraid, they doubted that God would care for them. So God rained down manna from heaven—daily bread that appeared with the morning dew (Exodus 16:4). For forty years, God fed his people with bread they did not plant, harvest, or earn. The manna was proof that God’s presence was with them and that his word was life.

Centuries later, a hungry crowd chased Jesus across the Sea of Galilee after he fed thousands with five loaves and two fish. They wanted more food. But Jesus told them manna and loaves were never the point. Bread fills for a moment, but it cannot keep death away. What God’s people needed was bread that would give eternal life.

So Jesus said, “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty” (John 6:35). Just as manna came down from heaven to give Israel life in the wilderness, Jesus has come down from heaven to give the world eternal life. And unlike manna, which spoiled after a day, Jesus gives life that never perishes.

This is good news. In Jesus, God himself is our food. He sustains us not just for a day but forever. When we believe in him, we are filled with life stronger than death. And just as bread becomes part of us when we eat it, Jesus gives himself so fully that his life becomes ours. His body is true bread for the world, and whoever feeds on him will live forever.
