“30 Pictures of Jesus” 30 Day PlanSample

Today we see Jesus as the Redeemer.
From the beginning, God has revealed himself as one who rescues. When Adam and Eve sinned, God promised a descendant who would crush the serpent and redeem creation (Genesis 3:15). When Israel was enslaved in Egypt, God redeemed them with an outstretched arm and mighty hand (Exodus 6:6). To redeem means to rescue, to buy back what was lost, and to restore life where there was death.
The book of Ruth gives us a living picture of redemption. Naomi and her daughter-in-law Ruth are widowed and poor, left without family or inheritance. According to God’s law, a close relative—a kinsman-redeemer—could buy back their land, provide for them, and raise up descendants to carry on the family line (Leviticus 25:25; Deuteronomy 25:5–10). Boaz steps into this role for Ruth. He redeems her family’s future by marrying her and giving her and Naomi a new name, a new inheritance, and a new hope. From this line would come King David—and eventually Jesus himself.
This story points us to Jesus, our Redeemer. Like Ruth and Naomi, we were powerless, impoverished, and facing death. But Jesus stepped in as our nearest relative, taking our loss as his own. By his death, he redeemed us from sin and death (Titus 2:14). And by his resurrection, he gave us a new name, a new inheritance, and a new family.
This is good news. Redemption is not abstract—it is personal. Jesus redeems us by binding himself to us in love. He restores our lives, secures our inheritance, and brings us into God’s family forever. Like Ruth, we can say: “You are our redeemer.”
