12 – Flee from Evil

The second way God delivers us from evil is very practical. By His Spirit, He gives us wisdom and common sense—and we are to use it: flee.

“But you, man of God, flee from all this, and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, endurance and gentleness.” (1 Timothy 6:11, NIV)

We know what our weak spots are—those areas of life where we’re most vulnerable to falling into the enemy’s traps. We also know the places and situations tied to those weak areas. And yes, we are aware of the people who influence us to think, say, or do what is wrong.

If we truly want to be strong in the Lord, we need to avoid those places and cut ties with those known influences. But if we can’t find the strength to flee from evil, we must ask God for it—because He has promised to give His Spirit to those who ask.

“For it is God who works in you to will and to act in order to fulfill his good purpose.” (Philippians 2:13, NIV)

When we take this step, we discover that God Himself supplies what we lack: the strength to move forward and the wisdom to make choices that honor Him. He enables us to go where we should go, to do what we should do, to connect with those who strengthen us, to dwell on what is pure, and to avoid all that leads us astray.
