REFOCUS MY HABITS + DISCIPLINES
When we feel stuck or keep hitting the same rut over and over, it’s not always a total restart we need. It’s sometimes just locking back in on the small daily rhythms that really shape us. These often-overlooked habits and disciplines guide our direction, and when left unchecked, they open the door to distraction.
You may have once been single and are now married… newly divorced… starting a new job… raising kids… or caring for aging parents. Seasons change. Sometimes dramatically, sometimes subtly. But no matter where life finds us, one thing’s for sure. We aren’t meant to stay the same. If we want to move forward with focus, we must first acknowledge the rhythms that are forming us or holding us back.
As shared in There is Always a Doorway to Distraction, distraction will take you further than you want to go, keep you longer than you want to stay, and cost you more than you want to pay. That’s why today we ask God to help us refocus our habits and disciplines and to close those doorways of distraction.
For some, this might feel deeply personal, like touching an area that’s become part of our identity. But God doesn’t expose us to shame us; He invites us into transformation. He cares how we spend our time, steward our energy, and live out what He’s placed in us.
These rhythms, when surrendered to Him, become the soil where spiritual fruit can grow. Our daily decisions create space for lasting change. This isn’t about hustling harder—it’s about staying connected to the One who brings real growth through us.
Application/ Reflection
As you spend time with God today, ask Him to highlight the habits and disciplines in your life—both what’s present and what’s missing. Write them down and focus on one or two areas.
- What habit or discipline is God highlighting?
- Can I identify when I first started or stopped this?
- What new rhythm might God be inviting me to build?
Prayer
God, thank You that You care about both my spiritual growth and daily patterns. You know the season I’m in and how to speak to me in it. I surrender my routines, distractions, and excuses to You. Help me walk in self-discipline. Not by my strength, but through staying connected to You. Thank You for giving me strength and making real fruit show up in my life. In Jesus’ name, amen.
About this Plan

Not all distractions are obvious; some are subtle shifts that allow you to drift without even realizing it. The good news? We can refocus. Hebrews 12:1-2 tells us that if we fix our eyes on Jesus then we’ll have the faith to focus. In this 7-day devotional, you’ll pause each day to refocus specific areas of your life and realign with the vision God has for you.
