A Life Ablaze

DAY 4 OF 10

Day 4: Ablaze With the Holy Spirit

Spiritual fire starts with the Word and with prayer, but it can never be complete without the Holy Spirit inside of us.

The Scriptures teach us that the Holy Spirit does not just bring fire; He is fire! If we want to burn for God, we must have the Holy Spirit actively working in our lives, and since we know that He brought the fire of God to us in the first place, we know we can depend on Him to help us keep that holy fire burning brightly in our lives forever.

The Early Church understood their dependence on the Holy Spirit, and it brought about amazing things as we see in the book of Acts, but many churches today don’t see that kind of supernatural movement. Whether they believe that the supernatural activity of the Holy Spirit ended with the apostles or that He is still active, they don’t make the space for Him to work. The Holy Spirit is always moving, but we have to make room for Him!

In the beginning, the Holy Spirit moved upon the emptiness, and creation began (see Genesis 1:2 KJV). Later, He moved upon Mary, and she supernaturally conceived Jesus (see Luke 1:35 KJV). Years later, when Jesus was baptized in the Jordan River, the Holy Spirit descended upon Him as a dove and began His ministry (see Matthew 3:16 KJV). From reading and studying the Bible, we can discern that the Holy Spirit moves on people in all circumstances, and when He moves, they are changed.

In Acts 1:8 KJV, Jesus predicted a colossal move of the Holy Spirit that would come upon the disciples: “But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.

That promise applies to you too. When you make room for the Holy Spirit, your spiritual fire will burn bright with the full force of God’s power, and the supernatural will take place. The Bible has set the precedent: When the Spirit moves, divine activity follows.

Make room for the movement of the Holy Spirit in your life. You have to add this fuel to your fire, because without it, you will always be missing an element of the fire that burns for Jesus.

For Your Consideration:

  • Look up the following passages in Acts – in any translation you prefer – about the movement of the Holy Spirit: Acts 3:1-9; Acts 4:24-31; Acts 5:14-16; Acts 6:8; Acts 10:44-45; Acts 11:28-30; Acts 13:2; Acts 19:6; Acts 19:11-12.
  • From the above passages, write out the ones that mean the most to you personally.
