Heaven - the ultimate social justice

Social justice believes that everyone should have the same opportunities and rights. It usually refers to fixing – or at least improving – a particular issue: child sex trafficking, poverty or domestic violence among many others.

With Jesus, social justice goes even further. He’s not satisfied with fixing only the circumstances of our life. He also desires our heart. He wants to save us and He wants to heal us from the inside out. But perhaps it does all start with helping improve someone’s circumstances. After all, Jesus fed the 5,000 (Matthew 14) and Isaiah 1:17 is specific about our responsibilities.

God values social justice and taking action because He cares about our circumstances, and because of the eternal fruit it bears. Psalm 37:28 gives us a clue that, for God, social justice stretches further than the here and now: ‘For the Lord loves justice, and does not forsake His saints; they are preserved forever, but the descendants of the wicked shall be cut off.’ (NKJV) God wants to save humanity – for eternity – and He promises blessing to those who ‘keep justice, and he who does righteousness’ (Psalm 106:3). He promises that ‘The righteous shall inherit the land, and dwell in it forever’ (Psalm 37:29).

Who can you bless today? How can you do good, seek justice, rebuke the oppressor, defend the fatherless or plead for the widow? Meanwhile, sow seeds of salvation for the ultimate social justice of eternity with Him where everyone lives in perfect harmony, and earthly sorrows have passed away.
