Win Your Child’s Heart

DAY 1 OF 4

What does it mean to woo a heart? While the phrase may seem old-fashioned, I find the concept of "wooing" very helpful as a Mom. We want to “win over” our kids. From the day a child is conceived, a spiritual battle begins for the heart of the child. Growing up in church, I remember hearing repeatedly that God has a good plan for my life. But this is something I did not hear: Satan has a plan for my life, too.

In the sovereign plan of God, He allows the enemy to win some battles in this life. We can have peace and confidence that in eternity God will make all things right. This is one of the biggest lessons we learn from the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. He is our hope in this fallen world, forever defeating sin and death. Ultimately, Satan does not win!

From the moment of conception, a profound spiritual battle begins for the heart of each child—a conflict between forces of love and destruction, hope and despair, light and darkness. This ancient struggle reveals itself in every generation as the most vulnerable members of society become targets for those who would exploit or abandon them.

The early Christians who daily rescued babies abandoned on Roman rocks understood something profound about God's heart for children. In a civilization that valued human life based on convenience and preference, these believers demonstrated radical love by saving the discarded and unwanted.

As a mother, you stand as the first guardian of your children’s hearts, not through controlling their every interaction, but by creating a secure foundation of love. No matter how much we shelter them, the world will inevitably pursue and seek the heart of our children. Are we willing to pursue them first?

Reflection Question: What specific influences in your child's world concern you most? Are you being intentional to press into these areas with loving conversation?
